I have an HPPPavilion a310n which I have installed the Tx2 Ultra133
controller in. I can get it recognize the 1 Seagate ST380012A hard drive as
well as the DVD-Writer and CDRW.

However, it will not let me boot from the Seagate. I keep getting an unable
to locate the NTLDR error when attempting to boot.

I have tried the following:

a.. Installed the drivers while connected to the onboard IDE controller
b.. Upgraded the firmware and drivers (and confirmed they are upgraded and
working)
c.. Changed the boot order in the BIOS
d.. Changed the cables
e.. Tried different PCI slots
f.. Changed the jumpers to Cable Select, Master, and slave settings
g.. I tried a fdisk /MBR while attached to the promise controller
h.. I tried switching the Seagate from IDE1 to IDE2 on the controller
inferface

I still have had no success booting. I can hook up a 2nd drive just fine to
it.

I have a phoenix bios which recognizes the drive fine as well as allows me
to choose the boot order and it sees the promise controller.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I had this problem after I moved a hard drive from an on board IDE port to a Promise adapter then installing an old hard drive on the IDE port and installing an OS on the drive on the IDE port. It would boot from the drive on the Promise adapter but look for ntldr on the IDE port. If I recall correctly I fixed it by restoring the boot record with my WinNT repair floppy.
