HELP!!! PROGRAMS WILL NOT EXECUTE

Every time I start-up i get a message that says"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel" The problem is EVERY execution is in-operable. I am sooo frustrated.. Any help for editing registry, adding an exe string for XP-Pro would be greatly appreciated... Thanks, XP-ANNOYED AND FRUSTRATED!!
