help:printer refuses to work

i have winxp,my printer is old hp laserjet 4vc.but printer doesn't work,i reinstall the drive progrem,include hp laserjet 4v and hp laserjet 4vc,bit it is a pain.i am sure the printer is a good one ,it can work with win98.but why does it not work with winxp?it is interesting that the computer can't find printer when i uninstalled and reinstalled the printer.i don't know why it happened.do you know?

Try going in to your computer setup and changing the port setting to something other than what it is. It may be in the standard mode now. Try going to ECP or EPP
