I want to allow XP users to print to a printer connected to a domain
controler/server (2003) without the user having to logon to the server to
gain access to the printer.

Some of these users are XP Home users, otherwise i would just set up a user
account for print and tick "Remeber password" but this cant be done in XPH so
it becomes tiresome.

Can anyone help?

Thank you,
Mike.

Mike...

This is one of the limitations of XPH -- it doesn't play well with domain
resources.

1. See if you can specify a user name for a printer in a Net Use command --
no idea if this would work on XPH, but its worth a shot.
2. Allow printing from the Everyone group... this way even unauthenticated
users should be able to print.

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for responding -
1. See if you can specify a user name for a printer in a Net Use command --

With XPH /savecred made no effect, so after Logoff/Restart you had to login
again. It worked in XPPro though.
2. Allow printing from the Everyone group... this way even unauthenticated
users should be able to print.

I tried this but the server would prompt for authentication when I tried to
access devices managed by it. I could not find out how to allow
unauthenticated access just to the printer.

What i have done is stick a batch file in startup containing Net use so when
the machine starts up it connects to the server and printer. Its a good
compromise for now.

Thank you very much for your help though.

Regards,
Mike.
