Hi all,
I have a strange situation. I fix PC's for a job, and the
other day, I went to see a client and I updated her office
XP to service pack 1 then SP2. After a re-boot, all
internet traffic apart from http broke down.
When cecking for e-mail with Outlook XP and Outlook
Express 6, all the accounts fail *instantly*. I have
tried setting up another dial-up to one of my accounts, as
I know the settings well. The newconnection through ISDN
worked fine, and I could read web pages. I then set up a
mail account (whilst connected to my account) in Outlook
Express, and again the collection of my own pop3 e-mail
failed instantly again.
I then tried to connect to a FTP server (cicso.com)
nothing, and to the mail server using telnet, nothing. In
both cases the error message was something like " your
machine has refused this connection".
I could however ping external servers.
I have checked the settings for the dial-up accounts, and
apparently the XP firewall is of. I have also tried
turning it on, and allowing everything, but still no joy.
What is going on here??
I will look forward to your replies.
