Uncle Vinnie

Hi.. I am not sure what's going on- and my previous post probably looks more
like spam or trolling- but it's not.

I am googling but not finding much out there.. is anyone familiar with
this 'azaz' email.. I've been receiving email in my 'inbox' - with my email
address as the sender... nothing in the subject line-
"aaazzzaaazzzaaazzzaaazzzaaazzz:
in the body of the message...

Anyone familiar with this? Thank you.

What did your up-to-date anti-virus program report?

J

Absolutely nothing... Using EZ/AV... Seems like there are some asking about
the same thing - example, Postnet news groups...

It's odd... I've received 3 in one day.. seems others have gotten more...

Any idea on this??? it's odd.. for sure, I am not the sender... though the
sender box has been spoofed...

You didn't really give much information to work on, so
most people probably just figured you only wanted those
who were familiar with it to answer you. The lack of any
response was probably the answer to your question.

Sounds like a spammer test run or a misconfigured spam program.
What was the size of the e-mail? Malware takes up space.
Anyone familiar with this?

Not me. ;o)

I wish I could tell you more.. it's exactly as posted- my email address as
sender, nothing in subject line, body only has that 'azaz' (exactly as
written above, btw).. Not sure how I can tell the size of the email.. how
can I do that?

None the less, that's all it is... Google'ing, led to a small amount of
posts on postnet, nothing clear.. I guess it's out there- spam gone bad, as
you say?! Makes sense....

Thanks!

B'Regards,

Vinnie

I have not seen this particular email but I would guess it is a
spammer fishing for email addresses. Each msg that bounces back
would indicate a non-functioning address. Any that do not bounce
are probably existing mailboxes.

This is based on similar emails I have see that have no subject
and no body. Shortly thereafter, I start receiving spam from the
same IP. Still, this is just a SWAG on my part.

Ingenious.. thanks.. I'll keep an eye out.. makes sense now...

Is there a way to 'refuse' these?? In case it is a spammer, so they'll
think it's n/g?

Don't bother -- most of the time, the headers are forged.

There is a program designed to imitate a bounce but many spammers
now have a timer so if it is not bounced in just a few seconds as
an ISP would, they can assume the bounce is phony. Also, most return
data is now forged. I think it worked when it first came out but
it is no longer effective.

My 2¢,

Right click on the message and choose "Properties", unless
it is already displayed in OE's window. My point was only
that the size is an indicator that there is more than just the
text 'azaz...etc..." involved if this is malware. You could also
view "Message Source" to determine if there is more than
just 'azaz...' in the send.
