My mailbox is filling constantly with So big returns to people I never
mailed to. Norton and Sting scanned, isolated, and could delete all but
1 file. Box keeps filling up.How do I clean this thing up?Out of work
for a while..no $ to spend on tons of softwear to 'try out'. Anyone
tried a remedy that Works? I read lots of suggestions, but no one has
ever posted back that what someone suggested to them actually cleaned
the thing up entirely. What to Do?

Is there a common factor, a title for example that you can use to generate
an email rule to delete the emails from the server before they get on your
computer.

In Outlook Express, Message Rules are created in the Tools section.

What to Do?

I'm almost a novice -- here's what I did:

First, I installed an antivirus - there are FREE
ones, and perhaps your ISP provides some service
at no extra charge.

Second, Mailwasher. FREE. I have "taught" it to
recognize and delete (from the server - the mail
never gets to my hard drive) many viruses.

Third, SpamPal. FREE. This terrific little
program permits further junk recognition, though
the emails accumulate in the trash which must
occasionally be reviewed and emptied.

Fourth, once a week or so my system does the
House Call thing - a FREE online scan. There are
others.

As this combination evolved over the past few
months, I've seen zero junk - either virus or
spam - in my mailbox. Roadrunner catches most
virus-laden emails. Kudos.

The only rule you need for OE is not to use it.

Good answer Michael...THAT was a lot of help now wasn't it!

Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free by the latest AVG data file. New
viruses not yet
in the database may have slipped through, so always perform your own local
scan.

Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
Version: 6.0.514 / Virus Database: 312 - Release Date: 28/08/2003

I enjoyed your clear answer.

I have an AV..Avast 4
Use Mailwasher

And am now wondering whether I should use Spampal in addition...would it
cause problems with Mailwasher and my Email programme? Is it OTT to run two
spam detecting programmes?

I am running Windows 98SE and Outlook Express 5

The reason I am concerned is that my email was invaded by the Ganda B
worm..my AV warned me I had infected email and although I used message rules
in Outlook Express to try to block the particular sender and subject, it
still got through, which I found irritating!

I would welcome advice

I'm not sure if there would be any disastrous collisions or not, as can
happen when two AV scanners (on access) are trying to open the same file
at the same time.
I use Mailwasher Pro alone as it allows for multiple DNS Blacklist
servers, which it will query sequentially, but two separate spam
evaluator appz might not be as orderly.

You should really abandon Outlook and go for Eudora.
Reliable, simple, easy, etc...

Loaded with "spyware" unless you pay to get it stopped. Once "spyware" is
installed you have to run Ad-Aware constantly to remove the junk that it
does.

Better yet, The Bat

Agree, The Bat is a terrific piece of software, and reasonably priced.
Much better than Eudora IMO.

Now if they would only make it a combined email and news client...
