This afternoon, I was working on my Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600. Suddenly,
the laptop shut down. When I wanted to boot again, I got the message
'Please remove the incompatible memory module in Slot A'. I couldn't boot
any more. I removed the memory module from slot A, but I still can't boot.
Does anybody know by what this error can be caused, what exactly it means
and - most importantly - what I have to do to get the laptop rebooted.
Is there any risk for my data on my hard disk?

Thanks for all useful information!

I suspect you have a power supply or motherboard problem. You might
monitor voltage from the power supply (while connected to the running
system) if you have the capability to do so, but otherwise this most
likely this isn't user-servicable... one of the drawbacks of a laptop.
