I'm a very frustrated owner of a Compaq MV700 monitor, a Presario
5170, and a Rage LT Pro adapter. My monitor will work great for a
given amount of time, and then all of a sudden stretch horizontally
way past the visible area. All the front panel adjustment controls
will work EXCEPT for the horizontal resizing control.

Even when it's working fine, the display "shudders" once in a while,
as if it's about to stretch itself out again. i can't find any way of
reproducing the problem. I've installed the latest drivers for the
monitor and the video card (I think). I'm getting very frustrated.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, if there is a more
appropriate forum for this question, please let me know. Thanks.

well here goes, I had a compaq 5665 with mv900 (19") monitor. All I
can say is:

Compaq sucks, all those rage cards sucked. There's really nothing you
can do. try to find a good driver (yeah right) or just go buy a
geforce 2 mx which are cheap as hell now and way better than what you
have in there plus they are very stable.

Your transformer in your monitor is most likely going bad. Shouldn't
have anything to do with the card or drivers. Try a different monitor
and your troubles should go away. Sometimes giving your monitor a
good whack on the top or side seems to temporarily cure these problems
but the monitor is going dead.
