Try stretching the small window to full size. (Do not use Maximize)
Ensure that window is the last one closed and IE should remember the
size next time.

1. Open a link.
2. Don't use the maximize button.
3. Stretch the edges/corners so that the window fills the screen.
4. Close all other IE windows.
5. Close the stretched window last.

However, the above procedure is not equivalent to SHOWMAXIMIZED API call.
Best option is to use "IE New Window maximizer"

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=1746
(Uses Windows API calls and automatically maximizes every browser window you
open)

Hi John

After you have dragged the window to the size you want it, close that window by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking on the 'X' in the top right hand corner.

Try dragging the corners to get the window =nearly= full size (don't use
the 'maximise' button top right), and then close the resized window with
'file exit' or 'file close' (don't use the X at the top right). If that
doesn't work, come back and ask again (if it does, feel free to tell
us).

Did not work unfortunately.

The cure

To prevent Internet Explorer from continually changing its size every time
it is opened.
This is done by changing the Maximized key to yes.

Start>Run>Regedit
Locate this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Document Windows.
Now modify the Maximized key to yes.

Note you can save the registry key first by:
On the File menu, click Export.
In the File name box, type SaveKey, and then click Save.
Or create a system restore point prior to editing.
Note: If the registry key is not there, you can simply create one by going
edit > new.

Tried it and it still goes back to the small window next time I open it.

OK, try opening =two= of them, and giving both the same treatment,
(before closing either of them). For some reason that sometimes works
when just doing one doesn't.

Perhaps this will work:

Right-click on the IE icon in the Quick Launch toolbar
Properties
On the Shorcut tab, open the "Run" dropdown window. Select: "Maximized."
Apply
OK

Which is probably exactly what should have automatically changed in the
registry when you tried all the fixes offered to you by the expert techies
whom answered your question!

Interesting to find your source as I did not see such a post with this
answer.

Interesting to Note that this used to be a function that windows 3.x,
performed when low on memory via the memory management or the swapfile,
which is now, as we all know, the "Pagefile", if I am not mistaken!
