This is the problem. I finished a 200MB slideshow in MM2 and watched a preview in the program itself. It was perfect. I then saved it to a CD. During playback, about a 1/3 of the way thru, it "froze" on one pic, but the sound and the progress slider kept going. So, I burned another CD. The same thing happened but in a different spot. So, I burned a 3rd CD. This time, the last 50 pix or so are just a black screen, but once again, the slider and sound keep going like nothing's wrong

Each time I watch a preview in the program, it's fine. My class reunion in coming up very soon and I need to make a reliable master copy of the damn thing so I can burn copies before I lose my mind. I also think that this will be the first and last time that I use this crappy program - not only does it do this, but frequently and randomly drops pix out of the show and freezes and crashes often. With a 3 Gig, 512MB Ram, Pentium 4 with HT Technology, this should not happen.

Hello there,

There are two possibilities...

1) Your system is running out of resources because of complexity within the
project and other programs or services running. See the FAQ on my website
for some hints on that.

2) You have a codec causing you some trouble (Possible but not probable).
To eliminate this possibility download the Rename Codecs program from my
website & check out the tutorial on my site to see how it works.

If all else fails I would suggest breaking the project down into smaller
projects and then join the AVI's from each of those smaller projects
together.

Thanks John - I did the rename and then rename them back for the Codecs and it was per your website. (Nice job by the way - very informative...) Question - how do I split the project as I have edited it to specific sound bytes and specific music cue points? I also have everything closed on my task bar except for MM2, which is the only thing running

Hello there,

Yes the Rename Codec program does a good job for those with that specific
problem. It is easy after running the program the first time to then run
Movie Maker and determine whether it solves your issue. You should always
restore the original names by running it a second time and taking the
restore option.

Splitting your project into smaller projects is not something Movie Maker
lets you do very easily. Other software I use lets you effectively cut the
complete time line thereby affecting everything, or, you can use it to
create a video from just one section of the project....that makes things
very easy. Movie Maker can not yet do this and as a result it is often
easier to start again making smaller projects the output from which you
bring into your final project that melds them all together. This approach
has obvious benefits, you can discover that you would rather have one
section done a different way, it is easy to take one of the smaller
projects and rehash it and once compiled re do the whole thing by importing
it into the master project and making a quick re-compile.

thanks!

Hello There,

If your problem is exactly the same then the advice is to download the
RENAME CODECS program from my web site and to read the FAQ on my website
regarding the use of that program.
