HELP PLEASE,need a really smart geek,Windows installer,uncontroled

Use xp home
When I click on some system tray icon or open files from ,start-programs- ,or drag a icon from desktop to a desktop file folder. when I do some of the above the window installer starts to run, it wants a program disk to install the program. if I delete the program it will try to install a new program using windows installer

I have run a virus scan ,none foun
I spent 2 hours on line and 24.95 with microsoft te
I ran norton and it finds no problems with disk or reg file

Anyone have any ideas or seen the same problem
