it stops responding and i have to end program

Hi,
This might indicate a corrupt History folder.

[Assuming Windows XP]
Login as another user with administrator privileges, or from the machine's
default administrator account (from safe mode-
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315222 )and delete
the affected History folder from Windows Explorer.

For other OS's see http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

You would not be able to delete this History folder when logged in as
yourself- it's "In use." You should be able to delete it from the
Administrator account.

But, it's very likely that this is being caused by malware- adware, spyware,
parasites, etc.

No one program can remove all malware. Start by downloading and running
CWShredder, Ad-aware and Spybot. Check for updates (from the program) before
running Ad-aware or Spybot.
