Sounds like it is dying. Does your drive have S.M.A.R.T.
capabilities ?
If so, enabling SMART in the BIOS, and using the SMART
monitor will advise more detail on the problem.

Uh oh.
If I'm reading this correctly, you have a bad sector on your hard drive.

It's on it's way down.

Back up all important data ASAP. Also, RoJ's recommendation to enable
S.M.A.R.T. is a good one. By default, your BIOS will have SMART checking
enabled, and all you have to do is pay attention to the boot - SMART
should say something about your harddrive status.
Unfortunately I have no idea what it should say, since mine are in good
condition...

Hi RoJ,

Daft question, but what is SMART and how do I know if I have it in my Award
BIOS?

Cheers,

Steve

SMART is ;
00.html>

There should be a setting in your BIOS to enable/disable
SMART, if not, then your BIOS doesnt support it.
Make sure you run the scan-disk option from within windows
(right click the drive, properties, error checking,
checknow, tick both boxes, reboot), this will take a
looooong time but will throw up any errors.
