Hi all -
My setup:
1 desktop and 1 laptop connect to the internet via Linksys router and cable
modem. Both are running XP Pro. The desktop had a fresh clean install done
this morning and there are no programs whatsoever installed on it. ICF has
been disabled on both computers. The necessary services, file and print
sharing, and netbios over tcp/ip all have enabled. Neither computer has a
password on it as I'm the administrator and only one who uses them. Both
are in the same workgroup. I called my "homenet".
My problem:
It seems to be happening intermittently. The laptop can see both pcs and
browse with no problem whenever the network is available. The desktop,
however, is a different story. When the network is available, sometimes
it'll show both pcs and the other times just it (desktop) by itself. They
both can be pinged(192.168.1.100-101). I've even gone far as assigning a
manual IP to both machines but to no avail. When I type the computer name
such as \\comp2 in the run box, it searches like it's trying to find it but
gives me the error "network path not found". Sometimes the workgroup comes
back with an error: "Homenet is not accessible. You might not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this
server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not
found." I have files shared on both pcs.
I've done some extensive reading on different websites and I know I have
everything set up correctly. Am I missing something or doing something
wrong? If I haven't provided enough info, please feel free to ask me any
questions. Thanks in advance.
