Hi...I could use some help...

Pins 1 and 2 broke off on my Hard Drive (Maxtor Plus 8)

One is the ground, the other is Reset IDE... I assume I s/b Ok regarding the
ground as there are others... if not, please let me know..

What is the function of Reset IDE? I am concerned not to use this as a
primary drive, so I 'ghosted' it. Is it Ok as a second drive, or is it no
longer reliable all together.. thank you...

you are right...
there are other ground pins so if you are missing one of them
it should not be critical

the reset pin is used to reset the drive if it ends up at some
illogical state...and is generally not needed...
in worst case...the drive will be reset upon reboot...
so hopefully you should be Ok to use the drive...

btw: if you are are good with the soldering iron...
once the board is removed from the drive...the pins can actually
be replaced without too much difficulty...

you can steal pins off an old drive
9and use the old drive for practicing your soldering techniques)

Thank you Philo.. I was also thinking I may want to get to the circuit board
and solder a jumper from the broken pin (board side) to the ribbon cable!

first off...
you can probably just leave it as it is...
especially if it's working...
but i would not fool with the ribbon cable...
you should probably be able to steal a few pins off an old harddrive though

Thank you again, Philo... I will take a look at it...I don't have an extra
drive around (after tossing out the old ones some time ago) but I'm sure I
could find something in my box with parts/soldering iron, etc...

Thanks!
