Yesterday, my compaq laptop crashed (blue screen) and fortunately I was able
to make a backup of only the text, spreadsheet, pdf, word, etc documents in
my USB flash drive using advanced system restore (vista home basic). I
checked for a restore point but apparently none was created. After the
backup, I restored the laptop to the factory settings. Then after all that, I
ran the Backup.001.exe and according to the restore wizard the restoration of
the files was successful. The files are saved in a folder named System
Recovery Files. When I checked, the files were really there, but when I try
opening each one, I get an error message saying either the file cannot be
opened or cannot be found. But they're there, when I right-click and check
Properties, everything seems to be ok. They just wouldn't open.
I really need help because most of the files are for my undergraduate thesis
and research (data, calculations, and everything else). Lesson learned, I
should have made copies on my flash drives or CDs.
Below is the Restore Wizard log file (text file), but I don't understand
what it means. The ini, lgg, and smf files I couldn't find in the indicated
location.
Please help me. I can't find related info in Help and Support. Thanks.
