PC been great since build. Shutdown Tuesday night as
normal. wouldnt restart weds morning. Using System lights,
detected major system problem, resolved by clearing cmos.
on boot up found very low screen resolutions but windows
reported all devices ok. Restored to previous good point
and all seemed ok for a few minutes. Then discovered that
moments after starting XP, it restarts itself, constantly.
It runs for about 60-90 seconds before restarting. Tried
using my antivirus to scan for nasties but it wont open,
and then it restarts. tried running antivirus scan in safe
mode aswell but once again cannot start(although the
system doesnt restart in safemode). any help greatly
appreciated folks, cus im stuck! i miss my baby....please
help!

Regards

Do you have enough time to switch 'restart on error' off (Start>Right click
My computer>Properties>Advanced>Settings (Under Startup and
Recovery)>Uncheck 'automatically restart' under system failure. Post the
error here.

When the computer reboots, go to Start\Run and type in MSCONFIG, click the
Boot.ini tab and put a check in the box that says Safe Boot and press OK,
you should be able to do this in 60 seconds or so.

If the computer now comes up in an "ugly mode" and it doesnt auto reboot,
undo the change you made and then proceed with the following:

We want to implement the Cleanboot process using MSCONFIG to rule out 3rd
party software as the cause of this issue. MSCONFIG from XP can be used on a
Windows 2000 Pro or Server client.

Go to Start\Run type in Msconfig and press OK.
Go to the Startup tab.
Click on "Disable All"
Go to the Services Tab
Click on "Hide all Microsoft Services"
Uncheck the 3rd party services that are left
Press OK twice to reboot.

Once your computer is restarted see if the issue still occurs. if it still
does go to Msconfig and select Enable All on the startup tab.
If the issue does not occur go to the Startup tab and select items 4 at a
time or so with reboots in between to narrow down the exact item causing
your problem.
