Denver

I can't install any programs because they tell me, "not enough disk space".

I have C: with 500MB free M: with 10GB free, and N: with 30GB free.

I had previously removed the swap file from C: and put it on M: and N:.
Everything seemed to be fine.

I read the tech docs for the program I am installing and it said I MUST have
a pagefile on C:. Great! I put the page file on C: and remove it from the
other 2 drives, reboot, then I did't have enough memory for windows! I
recover it, and NOW have the pagefile on ALL 3 drives, but guess what? I do
a search for "pagefile.sys" and it is on M: and N: but NOT on C:! WTF???
I look at technet, it tells me to make sure I have the user "System" with
full access on C:. I do that, NO PAGEFILE! I check the REGISTRY and sure
enough, it correctly show a pagefile is SUPPOSED to be on all 3 drives! The
settings are 190MB - 450MB.
What is the deal??? Why won't windows create a page file on C:???
Thanks in advance.

Some things to check;

Clean out your %windir%\Temp, and \Documents and Settings\%username%\Local
Settings\Temp directory. Delete the Temporary Internet Files, and History.
Do you have a disk defragmenter, if not get one and use it. You could use
Find|Files/ Folders and search the drive for; say files greater than 5mB and
then decide if they're needed. Check the %windir% directory for a
$NtServicePackUninstall$ directory, if your current service pack is stable
and you don't anticipate backing down, you can delete the dir. Also check
for the existence of User.dmp and Memory.dmp (both, by default should be in
the %windir% directory) you can delete these unless your going to send them
to the application vendor, or Microsoft for troubleshooting purposes. Other
options are; moving the pagefile to one of the other drives, uninstall your
programs that are installed in C:\Program Files and reinstall them to
D:\Program Files If you have a lot of local user profiles stored, you can
move them, see this article for info on this.

Thank you! There are several things that I have never thought of, but right
now, the problem is simplified.

I can NOT get Windows to create a pagefile on C:. I havew 611MB free, and my
pagefile is set to 190-350, still NO PAGFILE after reboot.

The only reason Windows is running right now is because I DO have the
pagefile settings on the other two drives. If I remove those pagefiles, and
leave it set to use C: only like default, Windows won't run, it says the
pagefile is too small.

My mistake, I thought your immediate problem was installing some software.

Thank you anyway!

Well, any gurus that can figure this one out?

Can't get Windows to create a Pagefile on C:, but it will on 2 other drives.
