I just notice that my version of xp is this Window XP
Version 5.1 Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519: Service
Pack 2 is this the right version? because i know i use to
have this version of xp Window XP version 5.1 Build
2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158: Service Pack 2. did a
update/patch change the version of xp?

So which one is the new version? Window XP Version 5.1
Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519: Service Pack 2

or

Window XP version 5.1 Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-
2158: Service Pack 2

to check your version by going to start, run, type winver
and click ok

what does gdr means and stand for?

RTM = Release To Manufacturing

This build was the one released in Service Pack 2.

GDR = General Distribution Release

These are post-RTM security updates, critical updates, updates, rollup updates, drivers, feature packs, that have been made
available for general distribution (i.e. are posted on Microsoft.com or Windows Update for anyone to download.) These tend to be
security fixes or other high-visibility bug fixes.

QFE = Quick Fix Engineering

These are post-RTM hotfixes which have not gone through the additional test pass necessary to qualify them to be posted for public
download. These fixes are generally obtained on an "as needed" basis from Microsoft support.

For a more detailed explaination of the update process with regard to these three "cardinal point" identifiers, see the following

so what version do you have rtm or gdr?

Excellent reference. I've seen another acronym, though, RTW, and been to
embarassed to ask what that one's about--anybody know? (is W, "World?")

Hi Bill,

I've seen this acronym used a couple of times in press articles, "Release To Web"(RTW), when
referencing something that is ready for release to the Windows Update site.

<snip>
On June 6, the company will release Windows Server Update Services (WSUS, formerly Software Update Services--SUS--2.0) to the Web (a
type of shipment Microsoft calls Release To Web--RTW).
</snip>

However, I don't know if it's an official Microsoft acronym, or Press||Usenet jargon?

Well - Andre and I are both seeing it in Steve Dodson's writing, so I
suspect that makes it official.

Exclusive: Windows 2000 UR1, WSUS Coming in Early June
Windows enterprise customers will be happy to hear about two
impending releases that will coincide with the start of the Microsoft
TechEd 2005 trade show in early June. First, Microsoft will ship Update
Rollup 1 (UR1) for Windows 2000--you know, that "thing" that replaces
Win2K Service Pack 5 (SP5)--on June 1. On June 6, the company will
release Windows Server Update Services (WSUS, formerly Software Update
Services--SUS--2.0) to the Web (a type of shipment Microsoft calls
