When I start up my computer (XP Home) each time I start My Computer launches
automatically in the same folder each time. I have checked everywhere I can
think of to find the reason but can not stop it.

I would appreciate any advice as to what to look for.

Frank

Check:
Start/Run/control folders/View/Uncheck Restore previous folder windows
at logon

Please advise which folder is opening everytime you boot so someone can give you
more specific instructions on the problem.

Hi Frank,

Hi Frank,

Start/run msinfo32, expand the software environment and click on the startup
programs. See if there is a line here that either loads it or is "broken" at
that point of the file path. Make note of where it is loading from and post
back with this information.

I can not find the specific folder reference but a lot of programs that I do
not regocognize are loading from HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\current
Version\Run and from HKU\S-1-2 -5-16
.....................\Software\Microsoft\windows\current Version. The

Hi Frank,

Can you copy/paste the following registry keys?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

To do this, start/run regedit, expand the branches to each key (do this one
at a time). Click on the key, then on file/export. Give it any name, then
save to the desktop. Once you have saved both keys, close the registry
editor. Right-click one of the saved files on the desktop, choose edit, it
should open in notepad. Click edit/select all/edit/copy. Open a response to
this post and click in the message text area. Hit ctrl+v to paste the
contents. Repeat for the other saved key, then send the post for
examination.

I

That did it. I no longer get My Computer starting up after a restart.

I deleted MWSOEMON.exe and did not miss anything. ccApp.exe stopped my
Norton Antispam so I put it back on with no problems. I have WkUFind.exe
and realsched.exe are still disabled in msconfig and I do not miss either.
The only problem now is that windows starts in a selective start up mode.

Can I get rid of the two offending files and start up in normal mode?

Thanks again for your help.

Frank
