Try upgrading to v7.01, Victor. (I believe it's a free upgrade.) It's much
more WinXP SP2-friendly.

Victor,

I've got the identical problem. I have tried several fixes but nothing seems
to work. I am curious, did you ever get this problem resolved?

Hi Rick :-)

You don't metnion the version of Windows, but, try upgrading to the latest
Adobe Reader 7.0, which you can download free here:
http://www.adobe.co.uk/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
Or, uninstall and reinstall the current version of the Adobe Reader.

Aslo...

IE browser software defaults Acrobat Reader to "OFF" to display PDF files.
You can restore the setting to"ON" by finding an Acrobat document and then
opening it.

Then click Edit> Preferences> Internet> check the box next to "Display PDF
in browser"

and..

If you have XP, check the Information Bar info:

Information bar appears when you open PDF files locally in Internet Explorer
(Windows XP SP2). Make sure that you are giving it permission to download
the file.

The path to Folder Options may vary according to your operating
system. It may be:
Explorer-View-Folder Options
Explorer-Tools-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Control Panel-Folder options.

Installing the Adobe Reader should set it as the default for .pdf

If still no joy, try the information here:

Hope this helps :-)

Hi Jan,

Thanks very much all your input. I actually have Windows XP SP2, as does
Victor who created the original post. My computer was fine downloading these
particular PDFs until recently - not sure what happened. I use Adobe 4
because I purchased the Acrobat software as I need the Writer.

I know it is not Adobe that is causing the problem as it worked before, and
other computers in my office also use Adobe Reader 4 to read the same PDFs
with no problem.

I will however give your suggestions a try when I have the time later.

Thanks again for your help.

Rick.

Hi Rick :-)

Try the reinstall of the current Adobe Reader, as some files can become
corrupted over time and use. But, if you have XP, you should at least
update the reader to the 7.0, which is more compatible with XP. I don't
think this should not affect your paid for program.

Also, it could be that you have picked up some form of scumware on your
system that is causing your PDF files not to work properly. Try running the
tools here and see if that helps:

Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Still...follow-up with the information in my original post first and see if
that will resolve the problem.

Hope this helps :-)
