Lori

I used the security wizard to set up user groups and
permissions, and mine was working and no one elses, so I
tried to remove the security and deleted the .bak file and
the secured.mdw file. Now no one can log in except on the
server. Please tell me how to fix this. We will not be
able to conduct business tomorrow until I can fix this.
HELP HELP HELP!!

From the Server, can you make a copy of the DB into
another folder (via MyComputer or WindowsExplorer) and
then open the copy?

From a workstation/client, can you open the DB using the
[Shift] key?

Can you see everything else on the network? Could the
problem be with the network (cables, etc. weirder, more
coincidental things have happened.)

Can you make a copy of another DB's .mdw file, rename it
the same as the problem database and see if it will open
then? Probably not, but you never know!

Is the database split into Forms and Data databases? Are
the links OK?

Have you udated you resume' lately? You just might need
it!

Another Idea

File, New Database give it any name
File, Get External Data find the DB and pull the info out
of it.

Hopefully you printed out the security report that the wizard offered.

Did you honestly think that removing security involved nothing more than
deleting the secured.mdw file? And then to boot, you deleted your backup!

You need to recreate the secured.mdw workgroup using the settings in the
security report.

Ho boy, I just did the same thing following the security
wizard. This is what I did to recover,
1) I looked at a co-workers Wrkgadm.exe file
2)printed the screen
3)restored my Wrkgadm.exe file
4)voed to stay away from the wizard
5) However, I need to stablish user-level security and I
don't know what to do.
Hope that this helps,
Eduardo

Keep in mind that the wizard just does a number of steps for you. It doesn't
do anything that you can't do manually.

Start by reading, and reading again the security FAQ at
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=207793

Other good sources are
Security Whitepaper
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=148555

Although the whitepaper is old, it contains information to help you
understand security.

Lynn Trapp's

Jack MacDonald's

Read these thoroughly, and then practice on a copy of your database.
