XP has a built-in System Administrator account for situations such as you
describe.

To log on to XP using the built-in System Administrator account:

For XP Pro, when you see the log on screen, press CTRL+ALT+DEL twice to
reveal the System Administrator account. Select this account and press
ENTER.

For XP Home, you will need to go to Safe Mode. Reboot the system and when
the computer first starts to initialize, start pressing the F8 key rapidly
until you see the black screen menu. Select Safe Mode using the Arrow keys
and Press ENTER. You will see the System Administrator account, press ENTER
to log on.

You can then go to Control panel/User Accounts and change one of the
accounts to Administrator.
