Hi there !
Can someone please help ! I'm pretty new at the game, and
I am not too familiar with hard drives and all the lingo.
I previously had Windows ME and to my knowledge,
everything was on Disk C. Now that I installed XP Prof.,
everything seems to be on Drive D. Problem is, I keep
getting warnings of Low Disk Space for Drive D
(System_Sav).This is what I was able to figure out from
the Control Panel:
Computer: Compaq Presario AMD ATHLON 1.00GHZ 128MB RAM
SYSTEM_SAV (D:) CAPACITY 2.72GB USED:2.56GB FREE:165MB
LOCAL DISK (C:) CAPACITY 53.1GB USED:3.58GB FREE: 49.5GB
Did I do something wrong when I installed XP ? Can I
transfer anything to Drive C since there is tons of room?
If yes, how ? If it would be easier to walk me through it
over the phone, I would be more than happy to pay the
long distance ! Or if you could e-mail me back at
(e-mail address removed) I would be grateful !

Hi Damien,
C is 53.1GB and D is only 2.72GB and you have used 2.65GB you should of
allocated more disk space to D than 2.72 GB. You are going to need a third
party progam like Partion Magic if you want to keep your data in tacked.

In addition to Joe's comments, with 128MB of ram, far more information has
to be swapped to the pagefile (known as the swapfile on Windows9x) and this
will bloat the pagefile, thereby both requiring and taking a considerable
amount of disk space. You need far more space on the system drive,
especially if that is the location of the pagefile and you need to at least
double your ram.

I don't mean to contradict anybody here, but I am just a tad confused
about what is actually going on.

Why do you think "everything" is on the D drive anyway?

You can check for sure by clikking on START, then RUN, then type in
CMD, then OK. A black screen should appear. Type in the command SET
and press enter. A bunch of stuff should scroll up. Look for
"SystemDrive" and "SystemRoot", and read what they are set to.

If in fact they are on the D drive, you can do a quickie fix by moving
the paging file, by going to Control Panel, System, Advanced tab, clik
on the Performance Settings buttons, then the Advanced tab. There you
can change which drive Windows creates the page file and ease your
space crunch on D somewhat.

If you can, put in some more memory. 128M of PC133 RAM costs $20
after rebates nowadays.
