Short and sweet. I just got a new Sony Vaio computer and
I want to transfer the files from my old computer to my
new one. I have XP Pro on my old computer and XP Home on
my new one. The guy at Best Buy told me I could us a
cross over cable to plug into the nic outlet but neither
computer recognizes the other. I've tried setting up a
network, but it says it's connected but don't see either
computer. Please help me!!!!!!

Be sure that you have a crossover Ethernet cable. A regular Ethernet
cable won't work. To tell, hold the two ends together in the same
orientation. If the wire colors are in the same order on both ends,
it's a regular cable and you need to replace it with a crossover
cable.

Once the computers are properly connected, run XP's Network Setup
Wizard on both of them:
