Yes, you do need all the critical updates. When you say, "used all the
memory", I take it you mean hard drive space. You can disable hibernation.
R-click the desktop|Properties|Screen saver tab|Power button|Hibernation
tab|Uncheck the hibernation box|Apply|OK|OK

Also, Start|Run|type cleanmgr|OK|OK

Under the More Options tab, delete all but the last system restore point.

Start|Run|OK|type %temp% |select all|delete

First, you would do yourself and others here a favor by leaving Capslock
off in the subject line and then by being more specific than "help needed".

At the risk of going against conventional wisdom, I would suggest
caution before loading all suggested "critical updates". By critical,
you have to understand "trying to correct flaws in security". The
problem is, too often, those "patches" correct problems while creating
other problems and occasionally, impairing severely your system.

Depending on your needs, you might be better off using a browser which
is not as susceptible to viruses and trojan as Outlook (which means, use
any but Outlook), second using a good firewall (ZoneAlarm is free and
probably sufficient for most needs) and third a reputable anti-virus (no
suggestion here, I am not sure I know which one to recommend). Then,
make sure you know what you MUST not do to avoid infections (a search on
the Internet on the subject would be useful).

If in doubt, ask someone you know has lots of experience here and do not
be the guinea pig of patches. If your system works to your satisfaction
and if you take the three steps indicated, you are probably in better
shape than those who install all updates.

Good luck

Outlook is not a browser. And a excellent way to get worms and virus is to
not download the updates.

Ok, you made your point and an excellent one but the user is probably
expecting more than this finesse. So, I'll be more specific: stay away
from Outlook and MS Explorer.

Downloading updates will not prevent you from getting worms and viruses,
if you want to be precise : it will - hopefully - prevent them from
being...pests. A job better done by dedicated programs.

Takes one to know one!
