Hi All,

i have just purchased a second hand cisco 3550 switch and need to telnet
into the switch in order to interrogate the ports and configure them. The
problem is that i do not know the ip configuration of the switch and also am
very raw when it comes to cicso commands and how to telnet into the switch.

Can someone point me in the right direction as i would like to set up a home
network.

Any information would be greatly received.

Kind Regards.

If you know the router IP address, use this command line: telnet ip.

If you don't know the IP and password, you may need to reset the router. this link is talking how to setup and telnet Cisco firewall, but it is the same idea.

You need to use a console cable and something like HperTerminal to connect to
the router. You will still need to know the enable password to do anything,
but if you don't know it there is a way to reset it. Search cisco.com for
reseting the enable password for that model and whatever OS it is running.

Get a pencil and paper. Write down the EXACT make and model number of the
switch "Usually located on the bottom of the switch and go to
http://www.cisco.com and find out if the switch has support for TelNet
because some switches do not.

This will save you a lot of time. That is unless you don't mind spending
hours trying somrthing that might never work.

You might want to try this URL also.
