Help needed getting domains to talk

I have to admit that most of my experience is with single domain
LAN's. Now I have a company that has added a second domain on a
different subnet. They want to share resources and I cannot get the
DC's to do that for some reason. There is a 2003 server running AD and
a 2000 server also running AD.

I have the following

DC1 = Win 2003 = DomainA : 192.168.100.x
DC2 = Win 2000 = DomainB : 192.168.40.x

There is a router on the 40 subnet connecting it to the 100 subnet.

I have found confusing info on the internet on what steps I must take
to get these to share resources. I can ping between the servers and I
can ping workstations by address but not FQDN so I'm sure this has to
do with DNS but after this I'm truly lost.

Is there a "how to" somewhere on the net or in books I can use as a
guideline to get this going?

Thanks for any direction...this is driving me nuts and delaying their
use of other resources.

assuming both domains have their DNS, make sure you point to each other.

Creating shares and network drives I understand. And I got the part of
pinging the name part of the connected servers (I had a duplicate IP
address on another router.) That corrected, I can now ping names (so
DNS is working) in both directions but I still cannot gain access to
the shares, etc between these domains (which are in and of themselves,
separate forests.)

Do I need to create some kind of forest trust? How do other LAN
Admin's handle this? Different domains, different subnets within the
same company need to share some network shared drives, etc.???

The site link covers basic issues. These I already understand. It's
getting two different domains/forests to talk to each other and grant
access to their resources that I need help with.
