Help needed for using charts in reports

I am trying to insert a chart in a report. Although I consider myself to be an advanced user this is something I have never done before. The report is displaying results of students in several subjects and I want to create a graph to display the number of students gaining each grade (Distinction, Credit etc). I have a query to provide all the data needed and have the report set up to display the grade counts in the detail section and would like to include a graph for each subject. I have used the wizard and created a graph in the subject header (also tried in the detail). The graph appears in the design view but when I go to print preview I only see a blank frame. I think I'm going crackers!!

Could someone direct me to some straight forward instructions or tell me where I'm going wrong.
