What is the best way to update Win XP Pro from SP1 to SP2?
I am not regularly an XP user, but need to install CorelDraw on my
Dad's computer, and the installer gives me a warning and says that the
OS needs to be Win XP with SP2. I checked in the "My Computer"
properties, and this machine has XP Pro with SP1. So, looks like I
need to update it to SP2, right?
I ran a phone line and connected the machine to the internet by my
regular dialup ISP, and started up the automatic updating thing. First
it said it needed to update the updater, so I let it do that. Then it
checked for what needed to be updated, and says that it needs 49
files, and estimates download time at 12 hours at my connection speed
(yay dial-up, right?). Hey, I can't tie up that connection on that one
task for 12 hours, plus I know my ISP will break the connection at
least 4 or 5 times over that amount of time. Also, the update page
does not even say if all of this updating will result in me having SP2
on this machine, or only an updated SP1.
I actually have an install CD for Win XP Pro with SP2, that I
installed on my son's computer last month. I know I can't install that
on my Dad's machine, but is there some way to use those install CDs
just to add SP2 to my Dad's machine?
1. What is the best way for me to update my Dad's computer from Win XP
Pro with SP1 to SP2?
2. If I struggle through that 12 hour download from Windows Update,
will it give me SP2 (which is what I need) or just an updated SP1?
3. Can I get the SP2 files somehow from another XP install CD that has
them on it?
Thanks!
