HELP: Need to compress jpegs in bulk

I have downloaded some jpegs which are too bulky (400K each).

I would like to compress them. At the moment I use Acdsee to view
an image and then to save it as a jpeg again. This gives me much
better compression but it has to be done one image at a time.

Is there a utility which will do a bulk read and save of my jepgs?
