Hi

I've tried using Movie Maker, Nero Vision, Pinnacle DVD factory and Ulead
Movie Factory to import MPEG 2 and/or AVI files and burn them on to a DVD.
The setup procedure works fine, but when I try to create the DVD my
computer freezes ( at the Trancoding stage in Nero) and I have to reboot.
This only happens when trying to create a DVD from scratch - I have no
problem copying
DVD's, or creating picture slide shows from scratch.

So far I've reinstaled windows - Replaced the graphics card - Updated the
mainboard drivers - and unplugged everything but the mouse and KB - I even
tried using a different mouse and KB - NO LUCK !!! Is driving me nuts.

Any suggestions as to what the problem might be would be very gratefully
received.

My system spec is: Windows XP SP2, Amd Athlon 2800+, VIA K7VT6 Motherboard,
1gb DDR ram, 200gig Hard drive.

Seems like you have plenty of computer power. And it is strange that you
tried all of those various softwares without good result. My favorite is
usually Movie Factory. Maybe you could try a small video file, since you say
you can make them easily in Movie Maker....DV-AVI is usually the best choice
to save video in, and I like to use PapaJohn's high def profiles (see
WMV-HD/introduction on his site) for video picture slideshows. First check
to see that your made movie plays well in your Media Player and or Real
Player.... if all is well at that point your software should work....since it
seems that they still don't work for you, the only thing I can think of is to
convert the file. See the post below where I talk about AVS Video
Converter....it also can produce a dvd from various formats. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply.

There's no problem playing large AVI or MPEG files on my sysytem, only
trying to burn them to a DVD. However:.......

I eventually solved the problem by entering the Advanced settings of the
Bios and tweaking the settings. It looks as thought the Athlon processor
can't cope with transcoding when it's run flat out. The message below from
'Alan H' provided the solution for me, so I thought I'd include it here just
in case anyone else has similar difficulties.

Go into CMOS Advanced Cipset Setup and change the frequency of your CPU to a
lower setting. Try about 1230mhz to begin with. Reboot and try to burn. Its
worked for me.

Since turning down the frequency I've had no problems.

Thanks again
