I just bought a microphone headset for Messenger and
internet phonecalls but whilst I can hear, the microphone
just wont work at all. No sound is getting into the
computer. It's all connected properly, am I missing
something? Thanks!!

You should have a loudspeaker icone in the systray - double click on it >
Options > Properties > Recording > OK > make sure the input device selected
is the microphone.

Also, try Start > Control Panel > Sounds & Audio Devices > Voice > make sure
your soundcard/device is selected in the Default Device in Voice Recording.

Failing that, try it out on a friends PC - does it work ? If not, change
it.

Jerry

Thanks for your reply Jerry, I've done all these things
but it still won't work. The mic itself is fine too.
Couple of questions, is it usual for the mic socket to be
very tight? It's much tighter than the phones socket and
I'm worried that it might be gummed up due to not being
used. I shouldn't need any kind of special driver to use
it should I? The default sound device is VIA Audio (Wave)
is that correct? Thanks again!

...and REALLY sorry for getting your name wrong!!!

No problem !

If you've tried everything then it could be that the mic socket is defective
have you tried another mic ? Does the same thing happen ?

Cheers,
Jerry
