New user...obviously

I typed up some documents and saved them onto a cd(this was on my father's computer)

I tried to open the files on MY computer, but it's all boxes and other types of symbols(somebody said ANSI...who knows?)

How can i convert the documents back into a regular text format, wherein I can read it and change the fonts as i please

Please help!!

You should not work/save directly to removable media. Alway work/save to
the hard disk and then use Windows Explorer (or CD creation software) to
copy to the CD. Try re-opening the documents on your father's computer.

Sounds like you created the file in one program and are trying to open in
another.

This happens particularly often when using WORKS and WORD. They are not the
same thing.
