My windows has rebooted and just about everything is in a strange font made
up of ? X dots and squares. It is a sid trying to make my way around. Even
the start button looks like a chinese puzzle. I can just about manage
windows explorer (one I guessed the correct shortcut).
Thanks Tony...

Hi

Can to get to Start>Run? If so type the following to access System Restore and then try a checkpoint to before the time that your problem started:

%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Failing that, try a System Restore from Safe Mode - keep hitting F8 after you reboot.

I'm having the same problem. I restarted my computer, and
suddenly everything is in a different font. Luckily,
Windows chose a legible font for me.

I tried system restore, and didn't have any luck. Is
there any way to control the font display for desktop
items, the start menu, and window text?

Thanks!

Hi

Right click the Desktop and select Properties>Appearance tab, then the Advanced button. Various options are available via the drop down menu.

Right - I did that already. However, I cannot access certain areas from within that control. The areas of text that I have not been able to fix are: the taskbar & start menu; the logon screen; message text (such as the text I'm typing in this box)

Thanks!

Perhaps the drivers for your graphics card are corrupted, reinstall the
drivers for your card or visit the manufacturer's website for the latest
drivers, install and see if that resolves the issue.
