1) This is a newsgroup, not a chat room or MS technical support. You will
need to wait a little longer than 47 minutes for a reply.

2) It's gone. If you need it back that badly, I suggest you start saving
up your pocket money to pay your father back as the only hope you have is a
data recovery firm - and that costs £1000s.

3) Of course a shortcut didn't do anything - the original document no
longer exists. There's no information contained in a shortcut. Why did you
erase the disc - your presentation can't have been so large as to have
filled a 650 or 700MB disc, surely?!

You're going to have to explain to your teacher what you've done - I very
much doubt if they'll excuse you though - because it's your own fault. Maybe
a week or two in detention might teach you not to be so silly in future.

I'm not the authority on CD/RW, but when you delete a
file on a cd/rw the cd burner burns over it and erases it
forever. Contrast that with your hard drive in your
computer. When you delete a file in your hard drive, it
merley gets unhooked and can be rehooked if you know what
your doing. Over time though the unhooked file will
eventually be re-written over by your computer as you add
to your hard drive.
Take some time to mourn over your lost file and then get
busy making an even better one. I've been freaked out
many times by having to do work over again by being
ignorant of the technology I was using. It's something
you have to be patient about. If I can, I just set it
down for awhile till I stop thinking about it and the I
get it done with a fresh mind.
