I am running a system with 2 hard drives. recently my D drive vanished.
I have recieved messages stating things from "insufficient parameters"
to "Disk D is not formatted". fortunately the D drive is not the main
one so i still have windows (yay). is there anyway for me to fix this
or is the D drive dead?

question 2....i tried to install a program on my C drive which had been
on the D drive..however it will not allow me to do so..it automatcally
attempts to uninstall from the d drive instead and then of course
announces that the d drive is missing. is there a way to bypass this?

any help would be appreciated.

you say D has vanished.
does it dhow up in BIOS when you boot up?
Does it show up in disk management?
does it show up in My Computer?

As for your programs on that are indicated as on D drive, I would think you
would have to edit out all references to r=these programs in the registry. If
this is not reasonable, the you will probably have to dod a repair install.

yeah..i already did that. thus the reason i ended up here in the firs
place. Let me try to re explaine the situation.

I have 2 hard drives C:\ and D:\ as in 2 completelt seperate drives
D:\ has become completely inaccessable. I cant open it cant ad
anything to it cant remove anything from it. if i go under add/remov
programs everything installed on D:\ is listed, however if i try t
remove or change anything it says ***ERROR the following erro
occurred on the file D:\ whatever said program\blah. the parameter i
incorrect (0X57)***
It does this for everything from the D:\ . Now when I try to instal
said program onto drive C:\ it automatically brings forth the Uninstal
wizard and tries to uninstall the program from the inaccessable d drive

Soooo..back to my original question...what do i do? And does this mea
that my d drive is completelt fubar'd or is it fixable? oh and althoug
i have been using a comp for years now i have never ever had to us
"system restore"..what does it do? yeah i know dumb question bu
really..whats it do?

Yes, Yes , and yes...which is patly why i am so confused lol.it also
claims the device is working properly.

Hi,

Before you try anything too drastic, go to the disk manufacturers site
and download their diagnostic program and test your malfunctioning drive.

As far as the hard drive it may indeed be DOA, but first..Is the data, power
cable seated firmly..? Is the drive showing in the bios, device manager,
computer management or my computer areas..? Have you tried to uninstall and
then reinstall the drive if it is in device manager, right click the drive,
click uninstall, then click scan for new hardware or reboot to see if Windows
can find and reinsall..?
Make a boot disk with the NTFS reader/copier app and you might, might be
able to offload your data, your call..

Hope this can help..

WHY would you say the "D" drive has vanished?
you can see it everywhere!!!

can you actually read/write to the "D" drive?
