Hi,
There are a lot of people here with more experience than me when it comes to
computers so if there was 1 tip you could give me to avoid a virus on your
computer, what would it be?
Please take a small moment of your time and write something down. Thanks in
advance.

Do follow madmax's link, its good relevant content.

My top three would be (sorry but 1 tip just doesn't cover it):

1. Don't open any e-mail attachments from anyone unless its something you
are expecting and sure about. (Be especially careful because some
attachments look harmless but are actually programs which will infect you.)
The same goes for any application from any other source.

2. Install anti-virus software (and keep it up to date). I've listed all the
free-for-personal-use one's that I'm aware of at
http://www.cryer.co.uk/resources/antivirus.htm.

3. Use a firewall. The one in XP is perfectly adequate (if you have it
turned on) but otherwise there are free-for-personal use ones around (see
http://www.cryer.co.uk/resources/firewalls.htm). Some worms can infect you
when you are doing nothing but being on-line, so a firewall is prudent. Most
routers have a firewall built into them, so depending on how you connect to
the internet you may not need a software one.

hope this helps,

Brian.

Install your computer virus free, and from then on:

Don't ever change anything on your computer. Don't install anything,
don't insert any data carrying things like diskettes or CDroms, don't go
intop any connection with anything outside the computer.

Only use what is on the computer, and *never* change it. Because
changing is, what viruses do, to their own ends.

But that isn't what you wanted to hear, is it?

When using Windows never connect the machine to the internet.

If you do, you'll need at least half a dozen programs to help keep you
"clean". You'll need to keep these programs up to date and run them every
day. Fun huh?
