I have checked or unchecked folder options to allow and
show everything.I went into the registry and enabled all
permissions without getting into special permissions.(By
the way, I am the only user and am logged on also as
Admin with no password enabled). The biggest current
problem is one folder on my D drive that has willy nilly
decided half of the files inside are encrypted and
therefore says access denied when I try to execute
them.It won't let me right click and clear the encrypted
check mark. The folder containing all thiese items will
allow me to clear the read only and encrypt check.Last of
all, I went to admin services to security settings to try
to write a blanket permission to open any software. Not
familiar with this area.No luck. Suggestions? Thanks.

Should also have said that there is no way a virus had
anything to do with any of this. I run Pc-Cillin 2000 and
it's Always up to date.

i dont have a good answer, but something in the back of my
head says that when you install a in update ( i think it
was service pack 1), windows will not recognise or
remember the key to an encrypted file that it made or
accessed before sp1 was installed.

Good one!! Actually I came up with almost the same answer
as I thought about it. I formatted my C drive and
reinstalled XP...losing the key.(I was so proud of myself
for figuring that out on my own that I almost peed my
pants!!)
