Do what Jimmy suggested try browsing the discs - Right click on them in My
Computer and click browse from the menu.

If even that doesn't work then it sounds like it could be a faulty drive.

If you can do that then try using compatibility mode on the installers:

-> Find setup.exe or install.exe program and repeat the above procedure to
enable compatibility mode on the setup program.
--> Install again by double clicking the setup.exe or install.exe program.

i try that but when i go to my computer, then to dvd/cd-rw drive there is
nothing there when i have the disc in, i right clicked and went to format and
it says disc is read-only

Hi jmk559,

The "read only" message when you try to format a CD/DVD from My Computer
is normal. If you right-click the CD and select Explore, what happens?

Hi jmk559,

Really? That's strange.. What does it say in My Computer
under the heading "Devices with Removable Storage"?

I assume the same happens when you right-click and click explore?

Exactly. d:^) The question posted since yesterday has been:
"If you right-click the CD and select Explore, what happens?"

the same thing happens if i use explore

last night i uninstalled then reinstalled my disc drive after i went through
all the troubleshooting options, and then it told me to try that. that didnt
work

i tryed searched for updates and that didnt help either

Hi jmk559,

At this point, since you've reinstalled the Disc Drive and if NONE of your
CD's can be read using that drive, yet can be read using a Disc Drive on
another computer, then there is a fault with the Drive itself, or it's cabling.

Ok, jmk559 would u have sp1 or 2 installed? because i have found out that
with the cd windows xp everything works, but as soon as u install sp1 the cd
reading error occurs. so either u format - reinstall - install game(s) - then
install the service packs as part of the final stamp on what will be ur
computer or don't use the service packs, which for me is bad as i have
purchased pc cillin and cannot install that without sp1, its a choice,
usually no one likes to make.
