HELP ME delayed start of windows

After I installed some software (either norton firewall
03 or office xp) when I logon my computer goes to the
main screen, but it stays idle for about 2 minutes. then
the sound goes on, and the sound icon is then displayed.
What should i do?

Run msconfig and check under the startup tab for things you may not need
loading.
