I upgraded from Windows ME to XP Home. I selected to
overwrite the ME operating system. XP finally installed
and now I have all my old folders, all my old program
folders, but NONE of the files underneath them. Is all the
old data hiding somewhere that I can't see? I sure hope
so. I don't think XP formated the entire hard drive,
because why would it still show all the old program
folders. All the old program icons still show. But some of
the old programs won't launch. What is going on here?????

Preston cogitated deeply and scribbled thusly:

you may have to re-install them. Did you run the Upgrade Advisor?

When you did this you lost all of you doc files and stuff.

If you had selected upgrade then you would have retained them.

I'm inclined to go along with "sqr" in this thread. However, banking on the
possibility that you may not be properly wording your message to us since
you say your old programs and folders are there, it's possible that your
files are there as well but simply moved to a different location. At least
some of those files were likely document or "doc" files, hence, in Explorer,
do a search on "doc" without the quotes. If some of your files turn up,
that's the likely location of most of them.
