I was trying to eliminate the log on screen and some set an administrator
password - which I do know, but seems not to work. I'm completely LOCKED
out!

This machine has "factory recovery" disks, but I don't want to wipe the
entire disk. I also have an WinXP Home disk that is a upgrade for another
machine. Is there a way back into this machine. Desperate!!!!

Have you tried accessing your system via Safe Mode?
Restart the computer and repeatedly press the F8 Key to get to the Advanced
Menu - Black Screen with several options. Choose Safe Mode and you should
get to a Logon Screen. Choose Administrator and leave the password blank.
You may have to type "administrator" into the user bar if the account isn't
displayed. By default and Administrator account is created when XP is
installed. On the Home version it has a blank password and on XP Pro it uses
the password supplied during install. Once you gain access tot he system you
can get into the Control Panel->User accounts and reassign a new password to
the account that you usually log on with.

Nope didn't do the trick - "can't log on due to user restrictions" Now, in
Control Panel I see USER Accounts 2 - long wins 2000 Accounts Style ---- or
something. This is nuts!
