I've discovered that my system consistently loses diskspace until it
requires a reboot. I can estimate the rate at around 50mb per hour. Ive
stopped all unessential services and non microsoft apps including memory
resident virus programs, cookie and ad mgmt software but to no avail. Can
anyone recommend a way for me to ascertain which program is causing this
problem. OR if its possible for it to be ahardware problem can someone
please recommend steps to take to diagnose.

ps. the systems is an HP Pavilian 753n, 512mb ram 2.53ghz proc 533 mhz bus,
80GB disk (18.6GB free at bootup), WinXP Pro SP1 with all latest patches

Humm. What happens when you re-boot? Is the disk-space back to
"normal"? What makes you decide to reboot? When there is zero disk
space left? With 18.6 gb free at startup, at 50 mb/hour lost that would
mean about 377 hours between reboots. Is this your experience?

I guess I didnt carefully estimate the rate of disk leakage--it seems to be
leaking a few GB/day--right now its down to 15.6gb (after reboot there's
18.6gb free). The system will eventually run out of disk space in which case
I get a critical disk low error message-- i fend of the inevitable and
preemptively reboot. Im wondering if there's an offensive virtual disk
device installed, iPOD or CDRW related maybe).
