I've got a user who has a brand-new laptop with XP/pro. I took it out
of the box and set it up for him Friday afternoon. I spent enough time
moving his docs and outlook to satisfy myself that the machine was
running fine.
Saturday I get a panic call from the (very non-technical) User, saying
the machine has slowed to a crawl. A little over-the-phone debugging
found that there was a CD in the drive and XP was hitting it hard.
The CD contained lots of html text for a web site under development.
Can anyone guess what software was reading the CDROM ? I suspect XP
is somehow trying to "index" it. This is a stock system and the user
whouldn't have selected anything optional.
