I read your advice on uninstalling Messenger. I went the
Tools, Options route and there is no option under any of
the tabs about running on startup. Apparently I have
4.1.0041

Will removing it the 'run' way, affect Outlook Express or
Explorer. Messenger, among other things, adversly
affects my online gaming. Not to mention that I could
happily live without the repeating, very annoying,
reminder that I don't have the latest edition. (Would I
like it now? with no don't ask me again option).

I have done the Control Panel thing.

Thanks for any help.

Matt

Greetings Matt,

By removing Windows Messenger 4.x entirely (which for reference is here:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/problem.aspx?id=7), in just Windows itself, Remote
Assistance may have some problems.

As well, you should run the following .reg file which will disable Outlook Express' Messenger
functionality and avoid any problems:

Other than that, there shouldn't be any adverse effects. Keep in mind that you can always
reinstall Messenger at any time if you like.
