I did something I know, by not sure what. I'm running 2000 with office 2000
and the system was running slow and outlook was not responding, so I closed
it in the task manager. I did not reboot but reopened outlook and everything
was gone, got some request to build a file and said ok (i'm now afraid that i
really messed up) and then it said it had to recreat a personal folder. I
have nothing..I tried to import my archive but the only thing it imported was
my sent files but only from about until April. I've had auto archive enabled
up until yesterday. Am I SOL? or is there a solution? I'm not going to
re-boot until I know in case there is a chance that I can recover. I just
can't beleive that this is all gone, it's just vanished.

Please help!

Pattie

Search your hard drive for all files with a .PST extension -- you'll need to
include hidden folders in your search since you're using Windows 2000. One
of those files is probably called "Outlook.pst" and the file size and
modified date should tell you if it's the right file or not.

Thanks for the info I had tried that...I even tried to import that
outlook.pst file into outook and I got an error that says: Properties for
this service must be defined prior to use. I'm not usre it's the right file
because it's giving me a modified date, but the creation date seems right.

Now what?
Thanks in advance

WHEW!!! I guess I should not have been hesitant to reboot. I gave up and
rebooted my system and everything came back up. The only problem I have now
is that I have 2 Personal Folders in my Outlook and can't seem to figure out
how to consolidate them so that when it opens it opens the right calendar for
my Outlook Today. But if that's all it is - I'll live with that.

Thanks

Click the one that contains the calendar you want as default. Click
File>Folder>Properties. There should be an option to set it as the delivery
location.

Thanks Brian,
I don't have that option on my list. So I'm just as happy to have it all
back...one of these days when I upgrade it'll all be good as new...
Thanks Again

Try this: Open the Folder List, right-click the root folder of the set of
Personal Folders you want to use as your default, then click Properties --
there you should see the checkbox for making that .PST file your default.
Then you should be able to close the other one.
