Motherboard gigabyte 8INXP

I have connected my new sata drive to the mother boards SATA_1 port (ON
BOARD) and added power.

Do I need to use the small adapter that is supplied, or is this only needed
if external SATA drives are being used ?

Powering up to PC shows no reference to the SATA DRIVE.

Turned on the PC, the drive spins up, but how do I know if its been
detected ?

How do I add support to XP Pro, already installed ?

Can I clone from an ATA drive to the SATA drive ?

Thanks

If it is a power adapter NO. Only use one power supply or you will damage
the drive.

Have you installed the SATA drivers for your motherboard. If not take a trip
to their site to get the latest ones.

Well if ever there was a reason not to try upgrading a PC when your tired
!!

I spent 1 hour trying to get the drive working...

Then realised I'd not enabled SATA support in my Bios !!! :)

Soon as I did, the drive was found.

I used ghost 2002 and cloned my old disk across and it seems to be running
fine.

I now have :

SATA 120GB SATA Controller
PATA 80GB Primary Master Promise ATA 133 Controller
DVD-RW Primary Master onboard ATA 100 Controller
DVD-ROM Primary Slave Promise ATA 133 Controller
CD-RW Primary Slave onboard ATA 100 Controller

This seems to be working fine, booting from the SATA Drive.

Thanks
