Steve Sr.

I just loaded Win 2KSP3 on a P4c800-e and am now trying to install the
Intel 865/875 chipset drivers. I ran the setup program from the Asus
CD but when I rebooted as requested nothing else happened.

I was expecing Windows to find new hardware and install it but
nothing! I then went looking on the hard drive and the install
program seems to have unpacked all of the files and left them in the
Documents and Settings directory.

This system has 2 SATA drives in a Non-RAID configuration on the
ICH5R controller. Device manager still shows these as standard IDE
using the regular 1999 vintage Windows driver. Device manager also
shows a lot of unknown "Other" devices with yellow "?". I am assuming
that at least some of these would be taken care of.

Does anybody know what magic incantation I need to perform to get
Winblows to finish the rest of the installation and install the
chipset drivers? It doesn't make much sense to install anything else
until this is fixed.

Thanks,

Steve

You may be supposed to do an "Update Driver" on the unknown entries and then
point Windows at the files in that directory when it asks where to find the
driver.

However, I'd probably just use the Chipset Software Installation Utility
from Intel which does it all automatically..

Robert,

You may be supposed to do an "Update Driver" on the unknown entries and then
point Windows at the files in that directory when it asks where to find the
driver.

However, I'd probably just use the Chipset Software Installation Utility
from Intel which does it all automatically..

This is what I did. I was expecting Windows to find a whole lot of new
hardware on the reboot and install it. I never got these messages so
thought the drivers didn't install.

Later I went in and looked in the "System" devices in device manager
and it showed a bunch of ICH5R stuff there so I guess that they
installed. However, I didn't see any changes in the hard drive
controllers. I was expecting to see something specific to the SATA
drives but don't. I am not running RAID and have not installed the
Intel Application Accellerator which appears to be only for RAID
configurations on the ICH5R controller.

BTW, the latest release for these drivers seems to be ...1002 even
though the file when downloaded from Intel says ...1003. Inside the
....1003 Zip file contains the ...1002 release with the date on the
installer of 8/29/03. This is the same date on the installer on the
Asus CD with a rev of ...1002.
